...so NEVER in my life had I EVER considered joining a sorority...
[partly because I felt like I never fit the typical sorority look]
..but then Davis happened
so the upside/downside [depends on how you look at it]
of living in a small college town is that the greek life is unavoidable
and a HUGE part of the lifestyle...
if you want to have fun...you go to a frat party...simple as that...
so the first week of school, i found myself doing something I never thought...going down Russell Blvd aka Frat Row and seeing what all the frats had to offer...
it wasn't that bad!!!

this is where it gets interesting.....
the Thursday of the first week of school I was invited to a latino frat party by my dear old Sarah doll.....she said her old high school buddy Juan invited her but she did not want to go by herself...
so i went...I met Juan.....and Luis Carranza and either [Dario or Rogelio] picked us up....that was cool...then I am told that Luis is the president of the frat.....wtf? The president of the frat is picking up two little freshmen he doesn't even know......wowzer...that is so sweet...I was impressed....plus I had not yet met any latinos in Davis so this was awesome....
so we get to the party and it was AWESOME! Soooo many Latinos...wow...davis was actually pretty diverse!!!!!!!!!!
so I get to dancing and some boy goes behind me...he starts dancing with me...which i found weird but now i know thats how it works...his name was Miles...hehe...the night went on and it was soooooo fun! By the end of the night Miles and I exchange numbers [1st one at davis] and we head out...omg mr president is drunk so Rogelio drives us home....we make a pit stop at G street pub to pick of some girls...then we go home...omg I was COMPLETELY in awe at how sweet these guys were....Lambda Theta Phi was OFFICIALLY my fave frat.........
so then next week comes around and Juan calls us to invite us to a social with Lambda Theta Phi.....it was Casino style...I invite V this time......we dress up and go....omg Mr President Carranza picks us up again! I could not believe his sweetness....
so we get there...and I still had no idea how the greek system worked....
apparently....sororities [for girls] cannot throw parties...only socials with frats....
this social was between Lambda Theta Phi and the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha....
and we had crashed it!!!!!omg I felt so bad!!!
the girls however were EXTREMELY sweet---especially two of them Brenda Vega and Jessica Pacheco....
so that night was the first night I EVER drank....vodka....some more...and then this boy we met---Fransisco Rojas--he made me ANOTHER drink
....tipsy.......
so Mr Carranza takes me a boy named James....a freshmen...and we begin talking...we end up talking the whole night...somehow alcohol makes my shyness go away...
anywho...the two first years, James and Fransisco, were totally awesome....me sarah juan and v were having an AWESOME time....

and she received her first lap dance from Dario...hehe...
so then...........this is where it all goes down...
I am sitting on a chair while James is grabbing me some water and dear mr. president Luis Carranza asks me to dance...I say yes....so begins asking me if I was interested in a sorority...i answer no....he tells me all the great things about sororities and networking and grad school etc....he is a good seller...he then takes me to two girls...Maria Pedroza and Erika Arrizon...there they begin telling me about the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha....
...apparently they were not even a sorority yet........wtf?
we exchange numbers but I an not too interested....
i go back to my new friends and then its time to go home...buzzin'............
again..sweetness we get rides from the boyys.......
about a week later I get a call...its Erika...
the ILLTA are having another social...this time with Gamma Zeta Alpha...
the theme is superheroes...wtf?
I just wear cowboy boots....
took V with me...it was alright...but this time I meet more girls--including four freshmen--Veronica, Ilona, Ashley and Michelle....
so we play various games--dance--and take Jello shots..yum...
when we come back, my new friend Fransisco decides to pay us a visit and he brings his roomie...Mauricio Grande---he's from El Salvador and from socal! he's my awesome paisa....
a week later Brenda [so sweet] invites me to another social with NAK--Nu Alpha Kappa--
the theme is Movie star...sound sooooooo fun, but I had an essay due...sadness I miss it...
..so then I am invited to the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha meetings where I get all the 411...including the fact that Lambda Theta Phi are our brothers...awesome!
so they are not a sorority YET but are working to get their letters....they were so official and serious about everything...i was a bit intimidated---I decide not to go anymore--
so one day I get an epiphany...I actually really LOVE the greek culture...so i give Erika a call to see if I can start going to the meetings...
first day back at the meeting I meet more girls.......
i also learn some scary stuff....after their two years of work to get their letters, it was finally going to happen--but we needed to go to Berkeley to me with the Interest Group there....I was faced with a decision...going to Berkeley meant being serious about this...actually joining...
i made the decision---i was going to do it...
so I've been through so much with these ladies...and though I've had MANY doubts...MANY MANY doubts....I have finally decided...I am going to do this............
the reason I am so confident right now is that I just came back from a fundraiser that we threw...there were three of us interested ladies--me being the one in charge to promote it--and we got an AMAZING turnout

--and OF COURSE Lambda Theta Phi!!!!!!!!!
They rolled deep........all of them came..........and they were all soooo amazingly sweet....got to see my friend Fransisco [who still did not bring my gorgeous peacoat] and my paisa Mauricio got to see Tapia who is always super sweet and he has the coolest girlfriend ever--Amber:Sigma Pi Alpha--as well as the guy who I pretty much have to thank for all of this....mr president himself Luis Carranza....we rep LA babyy.....
there were also some surprising visits from people who had not seen in a while...it was sooo great...
I am really thankful for tonight..i realized that though Erika may soon be gone, I will always have the support of all these other greek orgs if i were to ever need anything...that fills me with comfort...that is what is so great about the greek life...it is just a big family---we got each other's backs.....
so the big question: am I ready for the greek life?
