I find it so hard to believe that these young kids can manage such technology at such a young age, it makes me sad. I completely understand that these technological advantages are necessary in order for us to avoid a repetition of the middle ages [<--I have a theory on that coming up...] but it just makes so incredibly sad how much we rely on it.... so i was watching the news and the preliminary reports of progress on the war on terrorism and spread of democracy ....so far many critics are unsatisfied, and yet the public will NOT do anything about it...why? well in political science we learned this, there are three types of public opinion:
*General Public=80-90% of public-->politically apathetic! 90%!!!!! sadness
*Authentic Public=9-19% of public-->are really aware of political policies
*Policy and opinion makers=1% of public---> are really aware of politics because it is their job...
*Passive Public does not care about politics!
*Active Public cares about politics but does not have enough support to make a huge impact
The Rational Public cares about politics but their opinion is heavily influenced by the MEDIA and other independent players...therefore media IS an important role right?
[see Immortal Technique's "The 4th Branch"]
the rational public supports the government's agenda is explained as follows:
*Routine: day to day, public does not care..
*Crisis: [i.e. 9/11] "Around the flag" technique where the public agrees with almost anything the government says because of the recent crisis...people are desperate and scared.
*Prolonged Wars [i.e. Vietnam and Iraq] Public sees no progress and they become unsatisfied with government & its policies...
What is the input of how public changes their mind:
*Casualties--willing to accept high levels of casualties [Vietnam and Iraq war] in order to win the war. It is said that causalities are just an “unfortunate consequence” to achieve what we desire & as long as the war is being won people approve.
"unfortunate consequence??? "<---WTF??!
This is where the public is trippin':
3, 300 does not really impact people as much as hearing about the 9 marines that were killed.
Ex: Israel and Southern Lebanon—25 casualties per year, they were willing to accept but 7 soldiers die in a helicopter accident the approval rate for the war shifted until the government was pressured to withdraw from Lebanon.
“lets justify those who have already died by continuing the war"=major psychological weapon.
sound familiar?
exactly what Mr. Bush has just said...interesting...
so as I watched the news the other day, I began to notice a shift back into The Middle Ages [el estancamiento]. The government is trying to inconspicuously regulate our freedom and rights just like the church and the noble class did in The Middle Ages...it is really scary, but hey, maybe after about 500 years of darkness we will have an nouveau Renaissance marked by the discovery of a new planet? I am trying to stay optimistic :]
