a pedagogical week

*two rather stylish Palestinian young women walking next to a destroyed Palestinian home. Rather interesting contrast, no?

I'm only doing this because I have a final in exactly one hour.

Technology amazes me, I literally JUST took my macroeconomics final about two hours ago and my grade is already online; I am pleased to say that I have officially survived [and passed] macro.
I guess I should be studying for my next final, but it's an essay so there really isn't a way to prepare. We are going to watch an episode of The Office and relate it some of our readings and analyze it. After that I can finally relax. I'll be studying for Arabic which should be fun.

ohmyflippin'gee it's ridiculously hot here. I am really nervous for the second half of my summer in Davis because I've heard that the weather gets so extreme. I can't wait until the summer nights though :)
They must compensate for the fact that I'll be stuck in my office & in class the whole day.
But before all of that is Chile; I am so excited, it's kind of ridiculous.

All in all, I am really distraught that I will not be home for such a long time; it has been 4 months since I've seen my parents and G_d knows how long since I've seen my friends. I miss them all so much. My best friend Angel is supposed to come up this weekend but I doubt he will. I think the first thing I'll do when I go home is go to the water park with my baby brother; the second thing I'll do is go to the beach. If I had money I'd go home this weekend. I can't bear the thought of not seeing my parents for 5 months. I guess that's the price I pay, eh?

I absolutely love finals time in Davis [or any school for that matter].

l Iove being on campus and reading. I love to people watch. I love seeing the frantic students and the last minute cram sessions. I love study groups. I love the smell of coffee brewing from the minute I step off the bus. I LOVE griffin lounge and all the crazy caffeinated insomnia affected students in their sweat pants and messy hair. I love all the junk food scattered everywhere because finals week is the only acceptable time to ruin your body with that junk. I love reading Facebook statuses of my fellow classmates. I love hearing how their papers are going and how they can't wait for finals to be over so they can get drunk and go to the beach. I LOVE the feeling of printing out a paper minutes before it's due. That adrenaline rush is incomparable. I love all the restaurants and cafes in Downtown Davis because all the tables are filled with scattered notes, laptops, food, and books. I love how professors and T.A.s are so helpful even at the last minute. I love how our school caters to our needs. I love that the Unitrans buses are packed with poor students frantically reading and re-reading their notes. I love that there are no seats at the Coho and the MU because everyone is attempting to concentrate. What I love the most, though, is when the students run into each other and sincerely wish their fellow classmates good luck on finals. It always makes me smile and makes me realize how lucky I am to be here.
